Been a screwed up last few days. The kind of days when I really, really, REALLY wish I could meditate.
Bought a tablet last weekend- a refurbished Lenovo Ideapad A1107 to be specific. Price was good, free shipping, reviews were favorable and I kinda needed a tablet. Should’ve been tipped off by the fact that they’re not making these anymore.
From the jump when there was no manual included in the box, I shoulda known, but I chalked that up to being a refurbished item so I went to download it. Took ten minutes just to find the blasted thing on the Lenovo site- another small hint.
Plugged it in, rooted it out, and got to rolling. For a couple minutes.
Let me say up front I can’t stand the way companies force websites and apps down your throat. You can’t run a PC without Internet Explorer- and you can’t delete it anymore like you used to with Win XP- and you can’t use a device unless you go through their affiliate partners just to get the damn thing set up. So it was off to GooglePlay just to acquire a couple of apps. Grrrr…
Then, of course, none of my computer’s recognized the device when I plugged it in. Downloaded http://www.moborobo.com/ to help out. Moborobo worked; loaded some ebooks and music- so far, so good. That was Saturday. By Monday, Mobo was literally crashing as soon as it opened. Went for http://www.airdroid.com/- which keeps disconnecting from my network. And neither even recognized the tablet.
(Kinda what I felt was happening)
So at the moment I have an overpriced paperweight that neither of my laptops- one with Vista and one with Win7- even recognizes and every program I try to use with it is DOA. It doesn’t even register as a simple external drive- which is all I frakkin’ need!!! Nothing fancy, nothing elaborate; just let it run- I can do the rest.
Then yesterday I had a screening session for a very nice job, paying significantly more than what I’m making now. Got up early, clothes were laid out, fresh shave, ate a good breakfast. Went to the laptop to tweak the resume a little, print some copies and get in the (freezing) wind.
Wait… resume won’t accept new text without screwing up the alignment…? Typing a new line destroyed the formatting…? Can’t even alter the size of the font…?
Suddenly I no longer have a resume, just alphabet soup on my screen. Missed the screening session, of course. Hopefully they’ll reschedule me or something.
Got one more solution to try for both resume and tablet; I’ll get to it after work tonight: Disney on Ice is coming back to Barclays Center this whole weekend… oh, the joy. Working security when so many kids are running around without their parents anywhere in sight is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
In a two-day span: the tablet don’t work. Disney’s back. Missed out on a job interview. Resume shredded. No explanation for any of this (especially Disney on Ice).
